Amazon Drops NFT Bombshell: Official Email Teases Digital Tokens and Platform Gallery
According to an email sent to at least one customer, the e-commerce behemoth Amazon has formally gotten on the NFT bandwagon.
The email claims that Amazon has previously introduced a particular kind of “digital token” that may be kept in a “gallery.” With Amazon’s capacity to lock and unlock the tokens to make them tradeable, the digital tokens also look to be something that can be purchased and sold on the platform.
Before NFTs may be placed for sale, users must “register as a reseller,” according to the email.
After one of their workers read the email, CoinDesk was the first to report the story.
Although the CEO of the company, Andy Jassey, hinted in an interview last year that Amazon has found NFTs to be interesting, the company has not yet responded to the news.
“I believe that NFTs are starting to truly take off […] At the time, Jassey predicted that NFTs will continue to experience rapid growth. He continued by saying that “down the line,” it “is possible” that Amazon will begin selling NFTs.
After months of speculation about Amazon’s cryptocurrency plans, an email appears to confirm the company’s NFT plan.
Unconfirmed media reports have suggested that Amazon is working on an NFT project. One report speculated that the project might involve Web3 gaming and free NFTs for players.
According to a different claim, Amazon is developing an NFT marketplace. The report stated that the marketplace would debut on April 24 and that its name would be “Amazon Digital Marketplace,” citing unnamed sources.
